The Long Riders Adventurers Association is a group of Artists, Musicians, Craftsmen, and Professionals, with roots that can be traced back through the pre-1965 upheavals. The primary mission of the group is to provide emotional and artistic support to each other in the individual search for spiritual fulfillment. The journey, and the ensuing memories, may involve a long horseback trek, the sound of a motorcycle as it drifts up the coast, or the shared camaraderie

of a soft campfire. Our members span the entire West, and all feel a special relationship with the Spirit of the Great Mystery. The youngest Long Rider is 6, while the oldest turned 75 in March, proving that we truly inspire, and are inspired, by all ages. While there has been an underlying bond with horses, both of iron and flesh, since the beginning, please do not be intimidated. I must stress that while all riders of bikes, along with both horses and mules, are welcome, the true measure of our members comes from the size of their heart, and little from the nature of their ride. I invite you to share our world.

A NOTE FROM A FEW YEARS AGO

Greetings, Spring Solstice 1999

Mediocrity and obsession with past indiscretions plague our times, yet the Long Riders continue to cherish the Dream, even as those around us look only for physical and emotional shelter. As the daylight fades we offer one last call of camaraderie. We would hope to see your faces around the campfire, regaling the others with tales of the preceding day’s wonders, discoveries, and warmth. Nothing worthwhile comes without loss, and even less remains to grace the sunrise of the following day.

The public’s demand for active participation in the Long Riders Adventurers Association can no longer be humanly ignored. At an executive meeting, the board has agreed to issue a few additional membership grants. As the board is comprised of all Life Members in good standing in the LRAA, their decisions are, of course, irrevocable and without appeal. I must state unequivocally, that all applicants will receive a fair and compassionate review, and those not selected are encouraged to read our creed, with respect to W.W. If it may be of some solace, very few applications even make it out of the Membership committee; those that do, are placed on the ballot, making membership in the LRAA a rather rarified honor, and never one to be taken for granted, or the privileges abused.

In commemoration of the upcoming millennium, the LRAA, formally established on February 17, 1965 and on the eve of its 35th year of public service, the MC division will accept applications for membership outside of the founding family. Screening will be stringent, yet all would agree that this is not something that can be rushed, as the ramifications could potentially prove fatal equally to both the worthy and unworthy . We will do our best to process all applications in the order they are received. The faint-hearted are advised to apply with less demanding organizations, such as the Navy Seals or the Texas Rangers.
